Strategic longer and larger grants (sLoLas)
Full proposal deadline (invite only): January 2014 TBC
The sLoLa grants call is held annually. The application process has two stages:
- Outline applications must be submitted initially (this outline call closed 18 April 2013). Outlines must be submitted via Je-S. They should not exceed the page limits described in the following sections. Submissions which exceed page limits will be withdrawn
- After assessment of outline applications, selected applicants will be invited to submit full applications
Strategic LoLa 2013 call
Applicants should note the following:
- BBSRC welcomes sLoLa proposals that address any of its strategic research priorities
- For the 2013/14 call applications are particularly encouraged in the following specific strategic areas:
- Endemic diseases of farmed animals
- Ageing across the life-course
- Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy - innovative routes to fine and platform chemicals (including biofuels)
- Industrial Biotechnology and Bioenergy - mechanisms for enhancing cellular productivity
- Outline proposals will not be assessed by Research Committees A, B, C and D, they will be assessed directly by the Strategic Lola Committee. Full proposals will be assessed by both the relevant Responsive Mode Committee and the Strategic Lola Committee
Where relevant, we also encourages sLoLa proposals to locate research teams (for either part of, or the entirety of, the award) at the Research Complex at Harwell (RCaH - see external links for website), utilising the available expertise of the Oxford Protein Production Facility (OPPF - see external links for website), CCP4 and other co-located groups. Such work could benefit from access to the multidisciplinary expertise and the large STFC facilities such as Diamond, ISIS and the LSF. Prospective applicants are encouraged to discuss their requirements with the Director, Professor Simon Phillips, before submission.
