New website and initiatives from national 3Rs centre

The National Centre for the Replacement, Refinement and Reduction of Animals in Research (NC3Rs) was established in September 2004 to provide a UK focus for the advancement of the 3Rs – the basic principles which underpin the humane use of animals in scientific research. The Centre aims to increase the development and implementation of the 3Rs in biomedical, biological and veterinary research and is part-funded by the BBSRC.

The NC3Rs has this week launched a new website which gives information on the Centre's funding schemes, programmes, publications and meetings, and includes an events calendar and information portal containing annotated links to online databases, websites, journal articles, legislation and other publications to help scientists and others apply the 3Rs and ensure the best possible standards of animal welfare.

  • Joint NC3Rs / LASA Small Awards Scheme
    Awards of up to £2k will be made for research and training projects in animal welfare and the 3Rs. Deadline: 28 October 2005
  • 3Rs Prize
    A new NC3Rs prize of up to £10k for a piece of published work which advances the 3Rs. Deadline: 4 November 2005
  • 3Rs Funding Scheme
    Funds available for hypothesis-driven and applied 3Rs research projects. Deadline: 13 February 2006
