Impact awards - application deadline approaching
26 November 2008
The application deadline for individuals to enter the Innovator of the Year 2009 competition and for university departments to register their interest in participating in the Excellence with Impact award scheme is approaching. Both awards schemes close on 17 December 2008.
The Innovator of the Year competition is an annual competition to celebrate the successes of BBSRC-supported scientists in delivering economic and/or social impact from their excellent research.
Individual scientists or teams can submit an application detailing their activities that have resulted in economic and/or social impact. A prize of £10,000 will be made to the winner with 2 runner-up prizes of £5000. For team winners, the prize money will be split equally among the applicants. The prizes will be awarded at a prestigious gala awards dinner on 24 March 2009 at Banqueting House in central London with national publicity for the scientist(s) and their research.
The Excellence with Impact award acknowledges university departments that are most active in embedding a culture that recognises the importance of economic and social impact alongside excellent research.
The competition will run from 1 December 2008 to 1 December 2010 with departments being monitored over this period.
Two prizes of £150,000 will be awarded with two runners-up prizes of £25,000. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner in March 2011.
