Consultation launched on next generation sequencing technologies
12 June 2009
The Biotechnology and Biological Sciences Research Council (BBSRC) is launching a consultation on Next Generation Sequencing Technologies today (12 June 2009). Comments are sought from individuals and organisations from the UK’s academic and industrial research community about the potential impacts that these technologies can have on research in biosciences.
Cheaper, easier sequencing of genetic information using Next Generation Sequencing Technologies aids generation of data that is useful in many areas of bioscience. BBSRC Strategy Advisory board has identified a need to consider the new scientific opportunities and new ways of working arising from these revolutionary technologies.
The consultation will feed into a review process undertaken by an expert panel for Next Generation Sequencing, which will report to BBSRC Strategy Advisory Board in late 2009. Responses will be considered by the panel in order to inform their reporting. BBSRC will then take this forward to develop a strategy for ensuring effective uptake of next generation sequencing technologies in biosciences research.
Please see related links section to view the consultation.
The deadline for responses is 9 August 2009.
