Industrial Biotechnology Catalyst to launch in 2014

Following BBSRC's announcement of two new schemes in Industrial Biotechnology and BioEnergy (IBBE), the Technology Strategy Board has committed an additional £5M support.

Together, BBSRC and the Technology Strategy Board will launch an IB Catalyst in 2014 that will provide funds to support major integrated research projects involving collaborations between the academic and business communities. The Catalyst will encourage major challenge-led research projects that will be derived from BBSRC-funded networking activities. The initial call will allocate funds up to a value of £25M, £20M from BBSRC and £5M from the Technology Strategy Board. The aim will be to build this investment to a scale comparable to the £180M Biomedical Catalyst already in existence.

The linking of BBSRC and Technology Strategy Board investments in Industrial Biotechnology will take to the next level a powerful alignment and focus that has been building over the last three years.
