Free public engagement and media training courses - 21 February 2014. Rothamsted Rsearch

2014 dates have been added to BBSRC's Public Engagement and Media Training courses. These are free to BBSRC-funded researchers.

Public engagement

This course is designed for those interested in doing public engagement but aren't sure where to start, and can help researchers exploring science which raises challenging issues or controversy.

This course is designed to support BBSRC-funded researchers to carry out effective public engagement that reflects upon the social and ethical perspectives of your work. You will learn about what public engagement is and why it is important, as well as begin to develop some of the skills required to carry out public engagement.

The course is an interactive day, combining information provision with activities and discussion and will be delivered by BBSRC staff with external facilitators and tutors who will provide additional perspectives and specialist input.

This course will take place in London on 28 March 2014. Anyone supported by BBSRC, working on a BBSRC grant or based at a BBSRC-funded institute can attend, free of charge.

Places are limited so for more information, to register your interest in this course, please go to: www.bbsrc.ac.uk/petraining.

Media training

The course is tailor-made for scientists working on BBSRC science and follows a bespoke programme created by our media office.

The course is delivered by practising print and radio journalists and has a strong practical flavour. The course provides the opportunity to practise managing the thrills and challenges of a live radio interview without worrying about it being broadcast and will also develop your skill at writing for a general audience.

"I would recommend this course to all and think it's great the BBSRC offer such training opportunities. Keep up the good work!" – Dr David Hughes, Lecturer in Anatomy, University of Glasgow.
