As the world population grows to 9Bn by 2050 there will be increased pressure on our farmland to produce more - and to do so sustainably.
We need higher yields, be it food or energy, with less inputs and we need to achieve this in a changing environment while taking account of a diversity of factors including:
- rural communities' concerns and aspirations
- global trade
- water availability
- new disease threats
