How we use Twitter
The @BBSRC Twitter account is managed by the digital communications team, on behalf of colleagues across the organisation.
We do not use any automation (such as tools that generate tweets from RSS feeds) to post content on Twitter.
If you follow us, you can expect between 2-10 tweets a day covering the following:
- Alerts about new content on our other digital channels (funding calls and deadlines, news, upcoming events, studentship opportunities etc)
- Occasional live coverage of events
Retweets of information from our strategically funded institutes, other organisations appropriate to our audience or tweets we feel will be of interest to our followers (please note that retweeting does not demonstrate our agreement or otherwise with the tweet)
We do not automatically follow back new followers. This helps us avoid spam handling, and should help you identify other key Twitter users we think are relevant and follow. Due to resources, we infrequently review our follower list. Being followed back does not imply endorsement of any kind.
We will update and monitor our Twitter account during office hours, Monday to Friday. Twitter may occasionally be unavailable and we accept no responsibility for lack of service due to Twitter downtime.
@Replies and Direct Messages
We welcome feedback and ideas from all our followers, and endeavour to join the conversation where possible. However, we may not be able to reply individually to all the messages we receive via Twitter.
The BBSRC digital communications team reads all @replies and Direct Messages and ensures that any emerging themes or helpful suggestions are passed to the relevant colleagues.
We will aim to respond to comments that include misinformation, but will not respond to any communication that breaks the rules of our content standards.
We will endeavour to provide full answers to specific queries. Should we feel that a question cannot be adequately answered in the Twitter character limit we may request a Twitter user send us a direct message with an email to which we can send a response.
Twitter and the Freedom of Information Act
Recent guidance from the Information Commissioner's Office has confirmed that requests for information via Twitter should be treated as official FOI requests under certain circumstances. On these occasions the requester will be contacted via Direct Message and further details obtained before all the relevant information is forwarded to email@example.com to be managed in the standard way.
